她們正在招募新的籃球隊(duì)員，我要去爭(zhēng)取這個(gè)機(jī)會(huì)。沒(méi)錯(cuò)，我是長(zhǎng)得嬌小，不過(guò)我反應(yīng)敏捷，身體強(qiáng)壯。當(dāng)其他人跳到半空中時(shí)，我可以從她們腳底下穿過(guò)搶到球。在秋天午后紅黃相間的林邊空地上練球真是快樂(lè)，大家又叫又笑的。這是我所見(jiàn)過(guò)的最快樂(lè)的女孩們了，而我是其中最快樂(lè)的一個(gè)。

我本來(lái)打算寫封長(zhǎng)信跟您談?wù)勎业墓φn（李皮太太說(shuō)過(guò)您想知道），不過(guò)第七堂課剛結(jié)束，再過(guò)10分鐘我就要換好運(yùn)動(dòng)服在空地上集合了。您希望我會(huì)入選吧？

又及：莎麗·麥克白剛探頭進(jìn)來(lái)，她說(shuō)：“我想家想得快受不了了，你呢？”我笑了一下，回答不會(huì)，我還過(guò)得去。至少思鄉(xiāng)病我是絕不會(huì)染上的：我從沒(méi)問(wèn)過(guò)有沒(méi)有人會(huì)得“思院病”的，您會(huì)嗎？（晚9點(diǎn)）

Tuesday

They are organizing the Freshman basket-ball team and there's just a chance that I shall get in it. I'm little of course, but terribly quick and wiry and tough.While the others are hopping about in the air, I can dodge under their feet and grab the ball.It's loads of fun practising-out in the athletic field in the afternoon with the trees all red and yellow and the air full of the smell of burning leaves, and everybody laughing and shouting.These are the happiest girls I ever saw-and I am the happiest of all!

I meant to write a long letter and tell you all the things I'm learning(Mrs. Lippett said you wanted to know),but 7th hour has just rung, and in ten minutes I'm due at the athletic field in gymnasium clothes.Don't you hope I'll get in the team?

Sallie McBride just poked her head in at my door. This is what she said:"I'm so homesick that I simply can't stand it.Do you feel that way?"I smiled a little and said no;I thought I could pull through.At least homesickness is one disease that I've escaped!I never heard of anybody being asylum-sick, did you?
